A useful correction includes the page address, the passage in question and the study that resolves it. A DOI or PubMed identifier is particularly helpful. If a new trial changes the picture, please identify what was tested and which result changes the existing account.

An error at a join matters here: a full-protein result assigned to a fragment, a carrier left out of a description, or an animal observation that has quietly acquired a human subject. Those changes can alter the meaning of a sentence even when the citation itself is correct.
